  • Bath Pizza Co are launching a left handed pizza to celebrate International Left-handers Day

  • The new concept has been designed to make Pizza easier to eat, hold and ultimately enjoy by left handed people

  • The left handed pizza will be exclusively available at Bath Pizza Co from 13 August

Bath Pizza Co are launching a left handed pizza to celebrate International Left-handers Day.

The pizza has been especially engineered by the team to support the Left handed community who account for an estimated 10-12% of the UK population.

Bath Pizza Co, Director, Alex Peters said: “We’re delighted to launch a new pizza designed to make life easier for our left handed customers.

“Having worked on this project with a small research group this summer we’re delighted to bring it to market for International Left-handed Day on 13th August.”

About the Pizza

The new concept has been designed to make Pizza easier to eat, hold and ultimately enjoy by left handed people.

The pizza is plated for the guest in a more left-handed friendly way.

With the main difference seeing the dough tweaked to make the crust’s performance enhanced for optimum left handed usage.

The concept it to create a more efficient “plate to mouth” experience for the customers.

About the Day

According to the BBC, International Left-handers Day is a day to “celebrate left-handed people” and to “raise awareness of some of the experiences many of them face” in a world designed largely with right-handed people in mind.

We're off to the National Pizza Awards 2022 •

Bath Pizza Co have been selected alongside 15 other leading pizzerias across the UK to compete at the National Pizza Awards 2022.

We’re buzzing to be heading back to the National Pizza Awards again this year after placing 2nd at 2021’s event. And this time we’re gunning for silverware.

Head Chef Jonah Pole who came close last year will be back mixing it with the best following a successful entry with Bath Pizzas Co’s famous Tiger Margherita.

Head Chef Jonah of Bath Pizza Co at 2021’s National Pizza Awards

The calibre of entries for the National Pizza Awards 2022 was so high that it made our job of selecting finalists more than a little tricky. But this year’s line-up genuinely is our best yet. The finalists are preparing for battle as we get ready to fire up the ovens and count down the days until we showcase the very best pizza creations the industry has to offer.
— Genna Ash-Brown, Editor of Dine Out magazine, which organises the annual event

Tiger Margherita: Extra crispy Tiger crust, Butter-Baked Tomato Sauce, Buffalo Mozzarella, House Basil Oil, Parmesan

Later this month, the 16 finalists will compete in a series of challenges starting with cooking their signature pizza in front of several judges, before creating a technical pizza made up from a specific selection of ingredients that are supplied by the National Pizza Awards sponsors.

Judging is based on:

  • How the base/pizza is made

  • Flavour profile

  • How well the pizza is cooked

  • Aesthetic and presentation

  • Texture, quality and consistency

  • Choice and use of ingredients

We’re looking forward to the event later this month, meeting fellow pizza aficionados and the judges and sponsors.

Watch this space and follow us @BathPizzaCo on Instagram to for our stories during the event on November 15th. Good luck chef Jonah!

Wow, a lot has happened over the past 20 months.

Bath’s pubs, bars, restaurants and cafes are open and many with beautiful cosy outdoor terraces, heated patios and gardens. Read our latest guide to outdoor pubs, bars and restaurants here.

We’re open!

Outside dining and drinking in Bath: new guidance and where to eat and drink in and around Bath

The home of good times: the Bath Pizza Co alfresco covered terrace

The home of good times: the Bath Pizza Co alfresco covered terrace

We’re serving up alfresco festive vibes, mulled wine, mulled cider, plenty of pizza and beers, wine and cocktails this winter. But we find ourselves asking where else in Bath can we visit and recommend to our customers?

Where are the best outside pubs, bars and restaurants in Bath and what are the new Tier 2 rules?

We’re open and are looking forward to welcoming old and new faces as we set up our alfresco festive terrace.

We appreciate there are some slightly confusing messages from the Government about the do’s and don'ts when it comes to eating and drinking and going to the pub in the Tier 2 status that Bath is now in.

So, we’ve put together some FAQs and common questions about alfresco and outside dining in Bath below.

What are the outside rules in Tier 2 (Bath)?

As a Tier 2 area, restaurants, pubs and bars can be open when following the Government guidance. For outside drinking and dining, there are new rules about alcohol sales and table sizes.

Guests can only be served alcohol when eating a substantial meal. A Pizza or Garlic Bread counts as a substantial meal.

What are the rules for group sizes and mixed households?

Outside dining means that the rule of 6 is allowed and this includes mixed households. So 6 individuals from different households can get together for a meal outside. The total number does include children. For example a mother and father with four children would count as a 6, the maximum size group and can’t sit with others.

Where in Bath has outside dining and drinking space?

Green Park Station has a great range of outdoor dining options for casual dining and some food outlets serving alcohol too. Here at Bath Pizza Co we have our large outside terrace which is covered from the wind and rain under the stunning glass vaulted railway station roof - which dates back to the mid 1800s.

outside-restaurant-pub-in-bath-city-centre.jpg

Cosy up under our alfresco terrace heaters and watch the work go by with pizza, cocktails, mulled wine and more.

Bath has some fantastic outside pubs, bars and restaurants. However, not all will be open. There are beer gardens further outside of Bath where food is offered at several pubs (be sure to check out The Packhorse and The Wheatsheaf at Combe Hay and the Bathwick Boatman).

The front terrace at Green Park Brasserie

outside-terrace-pub-in-bath-groups-mixed-households.green-park-brasserie.jpg

Our sister business Green Park Brasserie can set up to 50 guests. Even with socially distancing we have a lively and relaxed terrace with many tables under the heaters. Enjoy mulled wine, hot drinks and food from the main Brasserie menu or pizza from us here at Bath Pizza Co.

The Packhorse, Southstoke, Bath

Classic country beer garden st in one of Bath’s most idyllic villages. The Packhorse pub is a 15 minute drive from Bath is the beautiful village of Southstoke, where the community owned venue is at the heart of the village. As well as serving up fantastic food throughout the week and weekends, the Packhorse also has a great range of ales and ciders, giving it that proper West Country feeling.

The Wheatsheaf at Combe Hay

Beyond Southstoke and the Packhorse is the Wheatsheaf at Combe Hay. Boasting a large impressive outside space and cosy interior, the Wheatsheaf indoor sofas around the fire  make this a popular festive destination for great food and drink.

The Bathwick Boatman

Another of Bath’s great independent restaurants is the Bathwick Boatman. With a beautiful terrace overlooking the river, the friendly team at the Bathwick Boatman produce a wonderful local, seasonal menu and offer perhaps the warmest welcome in Bath. The peaceful riverside restaurant is only a ten minute walk from Laura Place in Bath city centre. Take in one of Bath’s best architectural displays of Great Pulteney Street on your way to the restaurant.

Thank you for your support and bearing with us as we adapt to the latest regs and rules. We wouldn’t be here without you and are delighted to be re-reopning! Big love, the Bath Pizza Co team

Where in Bath? Behind the Royal Crescent on Marlborough Buildings.

Best for… A few pints of Pale Ale (Beavertown Neck Oil) and the local hang out vibe.

Funky outdoor pavement terrace tucked behind the busy streets.

Where in Bath? Westgate Street and behind near the Little Theatre Cinema for their funky additional pavement seating area.

Best for… something a bit different away from the crowds.

Corkage, Bath

Small plates and wines by the glass - a match made in heaven for an alfrecso spring and summer. The team have created a stunning alfresco terrace at the back of the restaurant for guests to enjoy from 12 April. We can’t wait!

Where in Bath? Chapel Row - just off Queen Square, Bath.

Best for… trying something a bit different. Ask for food and wine pairing suggestions. Oh and the new alfresco terrace.

Flan O’Briens

We’re not 100% sure when Flans will be back but we hope it’s soon. Last summer their pub pavement atmosphere was a great reminder of why city centre pubs are just amazing: sunshine, drinks and watching the world go by on a lazy afternoon.

Where in Bath? Westgate Street (Kingsmead Square end)

Best for… Proper old school pub with a lively crowd. Pass me a Guinness.

The Wheatsheaf, Combe Hay, nr Bath

Another village pub near Bath that we’ve harped on about before, but you just can’t beat a cracking beer garden, friendly team and great range of beers and wine.

Where in Bath? About 15-20 minutes drive from Bath city centre

Best for… alfresco living in the huge garden and the slower pace of life

Bathwick Boatman, Bath

Another favourite we’ve mentioned before. Great for the Sunday Roast lunch or a romantic evening dinner on the terrace overlooking the river. Lovely people and team running the show.

Where in Bath? Rockcliffe Avenue, Bathwick, Bath

Best for… that terrace overlooking the river

St James’ Wine Vaults, Bath

Technically not open until May (as far as we know), but well worth putting in the diary. Another locals hang out where the pavement seating is going to be popular when things are up and running. Great service and a great range of draught beer. Another of Bath’s lesser known cafe culture places when the sun is out and the pavement is busy.

Where in Bath? Just off St James’ Square on Julian Road.

Best for… old school charm, cafe culture pavement feel.

It's a Wings thing

Bath Pizza Co launch new chicken wings menu

where-to-buy-chicken-wings-in-bath-jpg

We’re buzzing to have launched a new addition to our menu: Bath Pizza Co chicken wings.

To start with, we’re running the wings menu on Fridays and Saturdays during lockdown and then plan to serve them all week when we fully reopen - c’mon Boris!

Locally sourced, our free range chicken wings are available with three house made sauces: BBQ, Garlic & Parmesan and Hot Buffalo. We’re selling them as a portion of 3 or 6.

Head Chef Jonah has been perfecting the art of the chicken wing through the lockdown with a unique recipe. We’re preparing the wings in an overnight brine of Russian Vodka and our own house Spice Blend. Confit in duck fat and served crispy, customer can choose their sauce when they order. We’re also serving a blue cheese ranch sauce - perfect for dipping!

We’d love to know your feedback so please give us a nudge on our social media channels or Google Reviews.

Order via Walk Up, Click and Collect or give us a call 01225 588885 to get your order in.

12 Independent food and drink places in Bath we can’t wait to visit later this year

Shout out to Bath’s awesome independent hospitality businesses. We salute you!

outside-dining-in-bath-pizza-co.jpg

We’re counting down the days - from how we’re interpreting the Government’s latest signalling - for when we’ll see hospitality reopen.

We’re big believers that independent pubs, cafe, bars and restaurants play a huge part in what gives any city their unique qualities.

These are the businesses that make a place amazing to live or visit and give them their character and charm. These are the businesses that breath life into their local communities.

We can’t wait to get back open and see our favourites (some listed below) back in full swing.

Here are some of them that we highly recommend are on your list for 2021 and you help support through the next 12 months and beyond.

Swoon

Kingsmead Square, Bath

Why Swoon? Simply outstanding gelato. When Swoon opened in Bath they had queues for days as they brought a fresh new concept to Bath. Especially popular during the summer months it’s worth keeping an eye out for guest favours - you’ll see why these guys are a Kingsmead Square must visit.

The Grapes

Westgate Street, Bath

the-grapes-bath-pub-in-bath.jpg

Why The Grapes? Because it’s The Grapes. Brought back to life in recent years by landlady Ellie, The Grapes dates back as a pub to 1792. Now with a modern feel with a nod to the past, this long standing Bath institution is a true locals favourite boozer. We can’t wait to see The Grapes back open and showcasing some brilliant local ales and ciders. Keep an eye out for some of their outside seating.

Corkage Restaurant

Chapel Row, Bath

Why Corkage? Awesome small plates. Cosy up at Corkage (a short walk up towards Queen Square from us) and enjoy the creative plates prepared by the innovative Corkage team. A newly designed terrace garden awaits those looking for a new hidden gem this spring. Grab a notepad for your tasting notes from their many wines available by the glass.

Martini Restaurant

George Street, Bath

Why Martini Restaurant? Awesome old school Italian hospitality with a genuine warmth and a love for fantastic food and service. This old style restaurant has an old world feel with a laid back but lively atmosphere. Perfect location on George Street before making a night of it.

The Bathwick Boatman

Bathwick, Bath

Why the Bathwick Boatman? Slightly off the beaten path (10 minutes walk from town) the Bathwick Boatman boasts one of Bath’s most stunning settings. Try and book a table on the balcony overlooking the River Avon and enjoy the view and watch the world go by in the form of visitors and locals punting or rowing their way upstream to Bathampton. Better still, grab a boat after lunch and soak up the sunshine.

Sub 13

George Street, Bath

Why Sub 13? Cocktails, cocktails and more cocktails. Expect cracking mixology and tunes from the Sub 13 team as they lay on relaxed afternoons and evenings that can easily blend into the late night. Dancing shoes required for the downstairs club room.

Green Park Brasserie

Green Park Station, Bath

best-pizza--steak-restaurant-in-bath-england.jpg

Why Green Park Brasserie? We miss our sister business the Braz and can’t wait to see the kitchen firing up and the busy bar going again. Live music nights (jazz, funk, soul and swing) will be up and running four nights a week accompanying an awesome locally inspired menu with award winning steaks and a new look steak frites menu, cocktails, craft beer and more. Local suppliers headline the menu with award winning farmers and producers from Somerset, Wiltshire Devon, Cornwall dominating the menu.

Kingsmead Kitchen

Kingsmead Square, Bath

Why Kingsmead Kitchen? Weekend brunches. One of Bath’s brunch headliners, this place hits the spot for the brunch club brigade. With friendly and quick service the views also are great for people watching across Kingsmead Square - especially entertaining for seeing those recovering from the previous night!

Taylor’s Bagels

Walcott Street, Bath

Why Taylor’s? These local legends have in fact been open through lockdown stretches, but we can’t wait to see them fully open properly when we can grab a stool in the window and watch the world go by. Big nod to the Taylor’s team for keeping Bath going with their awesome bagels. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: Bacon, Cream cheese, Chilli Jam - go.

Rustico Bistro Italiano

Margaret's Buildings, Bath

Why Rustico Buristo? Another old school charmer. Tucked away in the picturesque Margaret's Buildings we love the fact you can see the kitchen at this Italian bistro. Great for cafe culture vibes in the summer in the street but also in deep winter months in the warm with soft lighting and interior.

Hudson Steak Restaurant

London Street (top end of Walcott Street, Bath)

Why Hudson? Pure steak. One of Bath’s long standing restaurants, we love Hudson's relaxed feel with high quality produce. Perfect for special occasions or if you want to grab their Early Diner special where you can pick up a glass of red, steak, fries and sauce for less than twenty quid.

The Old Green Tree

Green Street, Bath

Why The Old Green Tree? Step back in time. Wood paneling, roaring fires and unusual beer offerings make this place a favourite of ours. Tucked away on Green Street you’d be forgiven for not even registering this pub when walking by. Head to the back bar for your pints before grabbing a table by the fireplace. Yes, please.

open through lockdown 3.0

An update from us

take-away-pizza-in-bath-uk.jpg

Morning guys, following last night’s announcement we’ll be staying OPEN 7 days a week (12 and 9pm) for takeaway.

We feel that part of our role in the community is to help normal life to continue as much as possible and enable people to play their part - our staff, our customers, our whole city.

As a hospitality business we feel embedded in our local community and will be here when the good times return later this year - for now we feel that it is part of our duty to remain open.

We were open for takeaway in Lockdown 1, Lockdown 2 and we’ll be here through Lockdown 3.

If you fancy a break from cooking you can order via Walk Up, on Click + Collect or give us a call to collect (01225 588886) whenever suits you best.

You’ll have likely read how difficult the pandemic has been for hospitality businesses and we’ve been in awe of the support and feedback you’ve given us. Thank you also for your message of support over the past 24 hours, we hope to see some of you over the next few weeks.

The good times will return!

Big love, the Bath Pizza Co team
